5 Unique Incentivizing Challenges That Aren’t Barre Bingo

By Barre Culture, Just for Fun, Resources for Studio Owners No Comments

Barre bingo is great, don’t get me wrong. It’s a fun challenge and one that is pretty easy for studio owners to set up and execute, plus clients always have a lot of fun with it. I’m not saying don’t keep doing barre bingo but it’s fun to change up your barre challenges sometimes. If you’re looking for some inspiration, look no further than these fun challenge ideas that are sure to motivate your clients.

The Buddy Challenge

This buddy challenge was inspired by The Dailey Method in Colleyville, TX. They ran a #DaileyDuo challenge that encouraged members to fill up jars to gain points.

How it works

  • Teams work in groups of 2-4. You can pair up your clients with each other if individuals sign up.
  • Have the teams decorate the jars at the beginning of the challenge for extra bonding time.
  • Assign points worth different values depending on the task. For instance, attending 1 class is worth one point.
  • Designate a collectible that they put in their jar each time they earn a point. For instance, they could be craft pom poms or similar objects from a craft supply store.
  • Collect prizes as your team achieves milestones with their being a grand prize for extra incentive.
  • The first team to fill their jar wins. Alternatively, you designate a colour-coded system, so a green pom pom is worth one point, for example, an orange worth two points, etc. At the end of the challenge, it’s not who has the fullest jar but the most points collected as a team.
  • Throw an optional end-of-challenge celebration where you can crown the grand prize winners and celebrate everyone’s hard work.

What is encourages

  • A buddy system to keep each other accountable
  • Community building. If you’re an introvert like me, you appreciate it when your studio pairs you up with a buddy.

Barreopoly

The classic board game with a barre twist was inspired by Studio Barre on James Island in South Carolina who ran their own Barreopoly promotion last year. You can have a lot of fun with this one, by getting creative with the property names and game pieces.

How to play

  • Have clients sign up ahead of time and give them a printable game card you create.
  • If you’re familiar with the iconic game, then you’ll know roughly how this works. Clients earn points by completing various tasks like taking classes, bringing a friend to class, or posting to social media, etc. Every point they earn gives them a chance to move around the board, bringing them closer to buying up more properties and taking out their opponents.
  • The exact logistics of how you would run this are up to you.

What is encourages

  • Friendly competition
  • Gives your clients a chance to play a game that drums up all sorts of nostalgia.

March Madness-style Bracket Challenge

In the spirit of March Madness, why not create your own bracket challenge to motivate clients to take classes.

Download this editable bracket challenge template at barregoods.com/downloadables/

Want more studio resources and templates? Visit our store for easy-to-edit downloadables.

How it works

  • You’ll need to make a bracket printable with different exercises. If you need a template, you can download one from our sister site Barre Goods Co. here.
  • Divide each section of the class into different groupings, such as upper body versus lower body. Each week, clients vote on which exercises they want to see in the following week’s classes. For example, you have a “clamshell” versus “fire hydrant” pairing where clients can vote on which exercise they like more.
  • Work the winning exercises into the choreography for the next week.
  • You can also turn this into a friendly competition where teams compete in fun challenges, such as who can hold a wall sit or plank the longest.

What it encourages

  • Team building
  • Community building

Olympics

With the Olympics quickly approaching this summer, now is a great time to plan your own mini barre Olympics.

How it works

  • Arrange clients in teams of 2-4 or have them compete individually. For fun, have them come up with team names or assign them a country they can compete as.
  • Create a set of activities or events that clients have to compete in. For instance, how long someone can hold a wall sit or plank for, or have instructors judge form of different exercises.
  • This can be a single-day event or run over multiple days.
  • For added fun, host a medals and awards ceremony after the competition is complete.

What it encourages

  • Commroderie
  • Friendly competition
  • Community building

Paint By Numbers Challenge

You know those easy to paint activities that children love? Adults can have fun with it too.

How it works

  • Decide what the mural is that clients will fill in together. If you’re not the artistic type, hopefully, you know someone who can help you draw the outline of the painting.
  • This doesn’t need to be a paintbrush and paint activity either. Think pre-cut puzzle pieces that when put together creates a full picture of whatever you decide it should be.
  • Assign points for different tasks that clients will need to complete. Each time a point is earned the client will get to fill in a space.
  • When it’s complete you have (hopefully) a lovely mural to display in your studio.

What it encourages

  • The nice thing about this exercise is that your studio clientele will need to work together to complete this activity, creating a bonding experience.

Spice things up with unexpected rewards

Here are some ideas for prizes that your clients might not expect.
  • Mystery prizes at the end of the month. Don’t advertise what the prizes will be ahead of time. Keep clients guessing by waiting until the end for a big reveal.
  • Spot rewards for achieving milestones throughout the challenge. For example, let the winner of a milestone reward decide what the theme should be for the end of the challenge party or class for all challenge finishers.
  • Host a wellness workshop for challenge participants like how to prepare smoothies at home, a meditation session or something you think your clients would like.
  • Give them access to unique retail, events or workshops. Keep it exclusive so they feel like they are getting something that most other clients are not.
  • Have a unique space in your neighbourhood that you think hosting a class at would be cool? Reward challenge finishers with a complimentary pop-up class at a desirable location such as an aquarium, football stadium, brewery or rooftop terrace for example.

Influencers Can’t Help But Pose for Pictures During the First Sloth Barre Class

By Barre Culture, Barre News, Just for Fun No Comments

Lola the sloth made dreams come true and not just for Kristen Bell. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then refer to this video here. Of all the unique barre classes I’ve come across, #slothbarre has to be the most interesting, not to mention the cutest class to date.

LA’s Barre Belle hosted the very first “sloth” barre class and made sure to document every adorable minute, thanks to the influencers who they invited to participate. Among the class-goers were Bachelor franchise alums Becca Tilley and Ashley Iaconetti, actress Ali Landry and other notable local bloggers.

Lola the sloth hung out (pun intended) during the class while participants were treated to a signature class from founder Marnie Alton.

We’re not sure how much of a workout Lola got but she sure was a hit with guests who loved getting their photo taken with her in front of a POM Wonderful step and repeat.

Some of you may have noticed a drastic shift in my content lately. In the past, I have shared my love for travel (#chaunceatravels as a reference), business and so much more but I never shared the extreme toll the frequent and oftentimes unchronicled travel and business had taken on me… With several International flights per year, working 72-hrs straight sometimes, I was neglecting “the personal me” in an effort to develop and grow “the professional me”. So… I have made a few commitments to myself in an effort to create a balance by investing generously in my mental, physical and spiritual well being as much as I do business projects. I have been so pleased with the results! In a short time, I have cultivated a few new REAL friendships, revived my relationship with the Lord and stepped outside of my comfort zone by trying new experiences like @LaBarreBelle powered by @PomWonderful. Yesterday was intense (excerpts of my experience should still be on IG Stories) – I was nervous, I wasn’t sure how well I would do but Instructor and Creator @MarnieAlton was AMAZING! She encouraged, motivated and challenged me and instead of wanting to give up, I felt the support I needed to keep going! After class I had a refreshing bottle of #PomTea with light bites as I chatted with my other Barre classmates and to top off an already amazing experience, I got to meet star @lola_the_sloth! A huge thank you to so many of you – your encouragement, support, kind comments, texts and DM’s have been so timely! Here’s to being the best we can be! Happy Friday and have a great Memorial Day weekend! #PomTea #SlothBarre #AD PC: @kirstiecampbel & @definitelydanni

How to Throw a Birthday Barre-ty

By Barre Culture, Just for Fun No Comments

I’ve never felt completely comfortable throwing a birthday party for myself, especially since I’m creeping into my mid-thirties and the idea of throwing an adult birthday is becoming somewhat of a rarity. However, after just having had my first child, I thought why not throw one more big blowout for myself before my focus turns to my daughter and planning her birthdays for the next 14 or so years.

The idea came to me one night. What if I could throw an epic barre-themed birthday, a birthday barre-ty if you will. I immediately got to work on dreaming up what could possibly be included in such a party. Below, I’ve listed what I included. Take this list and expand on it, or come up with your own ideas. I’d love to know what you would consider including. Leave a comment below if you’re planning to throw your own bash.

The Space

What I first needed was a space. My local barre studio, Pop Physique rents out their space for private parties, so I contacted the owner to secure a date and time to host the occasion.

If you’ve got a favorite local barre studio in mind, contact them to see if they host private parties. Chances are that they do and that they would be more than happy to accommodate special requests like bringing in some champagne, serving a cake and hanging a few decorations.

Party Favors

Next you’ll need to think about what fun gift items you might want to hand out to your guests. For me, I included a pair of barre socks, barre stickers and handmade superfood snacks. Some additional ideas include: headbands, scrunchies, tank tops, cold-pressed juice and water bottles.

Treat your guests to some pampering

If you want to put your party over the top, think about bringing in a mobile spa. In order to get guests extra pumped for the class, I had Cabello by Carolina. set up a braid bar, so each guest could have their hair braided before or after class.

A woman gets her hair braided at a birthday barre-tyThree women socialize at a birthday barre-ty

Serve some fun drinks after class

Once guests started to arrive and loot bags were distributed, it was time to start the class. After an hour-long class, there were glasses of champagne handed out and cake was served for guests to indulge in.

Have some fun activities for guests to do

If you have time try throwing in a fun game. For instance, who can hold the longest plank, who has the best pushup form etc. To incentivize guests think about giving away prizes to the winners of each challenge.

Contest!

Would you like your very own sticker sheet, just like the ones that were handed out in my guests’ goodie bags? I’m giving away a few sheets to some lucky readers.

Enter your details below to enter. Contest closes July 15, 2018. Content rules can be found here.

The Ultimate Girl Power Playlist to Get You Pumped for the Barre

By Barre Culture, Just for Fun No Comments

Whenever I need a female empowerment anthem to get pumped up, I think of the Spice Girls with their girl power message or Beyonce’s fierceness. However, there are so many fun, female-focused songs by some kick ass women that should also be recognized.

    Get the full playlist here:

Spice Girls – Never Give Up On The Good Times

Let’s start with the pop group who rose to fame on the idea of girl power, the Spice Girls. Though Never Give Up On The Good Times might not be the quintessential anthem about female empowerment, it is a fun one that will get you pumped up before or at your next workout.

Beyonce – Run the World (Girls)

This song might be the most appropriate song for this list. I just love the lyric about women being strong enough to bear children and then getting back to business.

    The Pussycat Dolls – I Don’t Need A Man

This is a song about not needing a man for happiness and we love it. Sing it ladies!

    via GIPHY

    Destiny’s Child – Independent Women

Destiny’s Child were known for empowering women but perhaps their best known female anthem was the millennium hit that came from the soundtrack for Charlie’s Angels.

    Britney Spears – Stronger

Brit’s songs in the early 2000s were generally more about relationships than girl power but this song told girls to stand on their own two feet and that’s why we think it should be included in the list.

    Meghan Trainor – No

We love this song for telling women that you can tell men to take a hike and that’s why we think it should be included on this list.

    Katy Perry – Roar

Of the many female-focused hits in Katy’s discography we could have included, Roar stands above the rest as a real uplifting song. Special shout out to the song Firework which could have easily been substituted for Roar on this list.

    Christina Aguilera – Fighter

Christina gets us into fighting form with this 2002 hit.

    Demi Lovato – Confident

Demi came back onto the scene in 2015 with a vengeance with the release of her appropriately titled album Confident. Her most empowering track is of the same name.

    Aretha Franklin – Respect

We can’t not include this classic from the queen of gospel, Ms. Aretha Franklin. The timeless hit still holds up today.

    Rachel Platten – Fight Song

There’s a reason why Hilary Clinton chose this song as her campaign theme song. Though she didn’t win the election, we still enjoyed hearing it at her rallies.

Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)

We love this rockin’ anthem from Kelly Clarkson off of her 5th studio album, also of the same name.

Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

A classic girl power disco anthem. We love this song for its lyrics just as much as it gets us dancing.

Taylor Swift – Shake It Off

Taylor says it best in this song about confidence, just shake it off.

Shania Twain – Man! I Feel Like A Woman

This Shania classic might have been our go-to pre-drinking anthem but it also works as a good song to get pumped up to during a workout.

    Hailee Steinfeld – Love Myself

We couldn’t agree more Hailee, love yourself before anyone else.

Eurythmics, Aretha Franklin – Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves

Annie Lennox’s feminist hit is made even more powerful with help from the gospel queen, Aretha Franklin on the track.

    Fifth Harmony – BO$$ (BOSS)

The sassy lyrics in this song make us want to earn “Oprah dollars” too!
